Do You Have Questions?

You are evaluating what could be your 2nd or 3rd largest investment of a lifetime. So
ask the right questions.

Correct Questions:

1Are you licensed and insured, both with the state and the county? (Required in Pinellas County). Please provide copies of license’s and insurance. (At King Contracting, we bring copies on our initial visit) verify at: State: www.myfloridalicense.com
Pinellas County: www.pcclb.com
2How long have you been in business?
3Do you have a list of current references?
4Who will manage the job on a day-to-day basis?
5How do you handle issues that might arise during the project? (Believe us, they WILL arise, it is an unfortunate component of remodeling/construction)
6How many projects like mine have you completed in the past year?
7May I have a list of references from those projects?
8May I have a list of business referrals or suppliers?
9What percentage of your business is repeat or referral business?
10Are you a member of a national trade association?
11Are you active in the community?
12Do you provide a work schedule timeline?

Wrong Questions:

Unfortunately, based on surveys of respected contractors across the country, most people ask the wrong questions, and while they are important, the answers to these will be discussed during your pre-construction conference. You should NOT use these questions to make your decision on who to hire:
1When can you start?
2How long will it take?
3What time do you start and stop work each day?
4Will you be here every day?
5How much do you think my project will cost? (you’ll get this when the contractor returns to present you with their proposal)
6How much will it cost per square foot? (this is not a good measure for most home projects and is a wide range for room additions) See averages here.
